HAWLEY BOYS CROSS COUNTRY ACTION

The Hawley Cross Country Boys ran at Shady Oaks Golf Course in Baird, Texas on October 17, 2006. The team placed third out of six teams.

Leading the Varsity team and the run was Brendon Bounds in 1st place with a time of 16:51.96. Rodney Rud came in 24th with a time of 20:18.46. Kevin Harp was next for the team placing 34th with a time of 20:55.17. Justin Bristow placed 36th with a time of 21:11.92, and Kyle Compton placed 41st with a time of 22:04.01.

Running for the JV team was D.J. Belshe, 7th , with a time of 23:30 and Colin Penton, 15th, with a time of 30:33.

HAWLEY BOYS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM WINS DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP

The Hawley Boys Cross County team shirt says “I wanna run fast,” and fast they ran winning the district championship as a team placing first at the district meet held at Colorado City, Texas, on Monday, October 23, 2006.

Brendon Bounds, a Hawley high senior, won his third consecutive individual District Champ title with his first place win running a great time of 15:43. Justin Bristow ran a great race also and placed 5th with a time of 18:27. Bobby Schaefer was right behind Bristow placing 7th with a time of 18:37. Kevin Harp placed 8th with a time of 18:41. Rodney Rud also medaled with his 10th place finish in a time of 18:54. Kyle Compton, running with a cast on his right arm, showed great determination in holding off a Stanton runner coming in 12th with a time of 19:42.

In the JV division, D. J. Belshe placed 2nd and Colin Penton placed 3rd.

The boys cross country team is coached by Jimmy Doyle.

Hawley 7th and 8th grade Battle Coahoma

7th grade played a hard fought game against Coahoma. It was a defensive battle, which left the scored tied 0-0 at the end of the game. Outstanding defensive efforts go out to Ricky Webb, Caleb Beasley, Colton Pack, Jacob New, Bryce DeVore, Travis Long, and Brandon Lujan. Coahoma never got past the 40 yard line against these fighting Bearcats. Offensive moved the ball well but just could not put it in the end zone. Offensive players that did a great job were Colton Pack and Bryce DeVore.

8th grade had a great game against Coahoma. Frankie Harris got the game started in the 1st quarter with a reception from Billy Brosh to score a TD for the Bearcats. Harris ran the ball well for over 80 yards against Coahoma. Nathan Ross caught several great passes from Brosh to score and Brett DeVore ran in a 2 point conversion to make the score at half time 29-0. In the second half the Bearcats continue to dominate with a 20 yard run from Colton Patterson for a TD. In the 4th quarter Zak Ross ran the ball for another Hawley TD. The game ended with at score of Hawley 47- Coahoma 0.

Hawley JV vs Stanton

The Junior Varsity Bearcats traveled to Stanton last Thursday and won 7-0 giving them a 4-1 record for the year. Daniel Brewer scored the only touchdown of the game in the first quarter on a 9 yard run. Levi Miller kicked the extra point to make the score 7-0. Brewer was the leading rusher in the game with 30 carries for 101 yards. Zach Swinney carried the ball 7 times for 65 yards, while Zane Masavage had 4 carries for 29 yards. The defensive shutout was led by Chase Solomon who accounted for 4 sacks and 4 forced fumbles, Earl Miller and Kelly Harris each had 6 tackles, while Brewer also made 4 tackles, 1 sack and recovered a fumble. Tanner Thompson who intercepted last minute hail mary, also recorded 3 tackles, rushed for 15 yards and was 5 for 11 passing with 97 yards. Leading receivers were Kyle Compton with 2 receptions for 33 yards, Masavage with 1 reception for 42 yards, Rodney Rud with 1 reception for 12 yards and Lance Lofton with 1 reception for 10 yards. HAWLEY BOYS CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETE

The Hawley Cross Country Boys ran at ACU Sherrod Park on Saturday, October 7, 2006.
Brendon Bounds medaled with his second place finish with a time of 17:05.7. Rodney Rud placed 26th, 19:01.18. Kevin Harp finished 31st, 19::29 and Justin Bristow was 40th with a time of 20:33.6.

In the JV Division DJ Belshe finished with a time of 23:48 and Colin Penton finished with a time of 25:55.

The Middle School Boys placed 3rd place out of 13 teams. Nathan Ross placed 1st with a time of 5:41.
Zak Ross also medaled placing 8th with a time of 6:02. Jacob Olague was 16th, 6:12.68; Casey Waits, 56th, 6:46; Ross Compton, 50th, 6:54; and Cody Powers, 122nd, 8:22.

Hawley 7th and 8th meet Stamford

Hawley’s 7th and 8th grade combined Thursday to take on the Stamford Bulldogs. This was a game that saw lots of big plays and lots of turnovers. Hawley got on the board first with a 37 yd. TD pass from Billy Brosh to Casey Waits. The 2-point conversion was good by Brett DeVore. In the 2nd quarter Frankie Harris scored on a 50 yard TD run. The 2-point conversion was good by Brosh. Hawley would score once more before half making the score at half 24-0. In the 3rd quarter Hawley’s DeVore blocked a punt, which was picked up by Keith Thomas and returned for a TD. The extra point was no good. Stamford finally got things going by scoring on a long run with the 2-point conversion good. Hawley’s Zak Ross scored next on a 22 yd. run. Stamford scored 2 more times on a pass and a long run. Colton Patterson scored the final points of the game on a 40 yd. run. The extra point was good by Brosh. The final score Hawley 43- Stamford 22. Great jobs boys!!!

Hawley Cross Country Results

The Hawley Boys Cross Country varsity team ran at the Lubbock Invitational at Mae Simmons Park at
Lubbock, Texas on Saturday, September 30, 2006. The team placed 10th out of 26 teams. There were 206 runners.

Brendon Bounds placed 3rd in the meet with a time of 16:24.5. This was Brendon’s best time on the course. When you think of Lubbock you think of flat and no hills, but this is the one place in Lubbock that has some very steep hills and it is a very difficult course. Justin Bristow finished 81st with a time of 19:21.1. Rodney Rud was 93rd with a time of 19:44.8. Kevin Harp finished 101st, 20:03.3, and Kyle Compton placed 110th, 20:16.6

The JV team ran in the Jim Ned Invitational at the Abilene State Park. DJ Belshe placed 65th with a time of 24:38. Colin Penton placed 69th , 25:23.

The middle school also ran at the Abilene State Park on Saturday. The team placed 3rd out of 13 teams. There were 130 runners. Nathan Ross placed 2nd with a time of 12:41 and was able to bring home a medal. Also medaling was Zak Ross, 8th, with a time of 13:23. Jacob Olague medaled placing 11th with a time of 13:24. Casey Waits came in 58th, Ross Compton, 92nd, and Cody Powers placed 115th.

The boys will be competing at ACU on this Saturday, October 7, 2006.

Girls Middle School CC

The 7th and 8th grade girls traveled to the Abilene State Park Saturday morning to competed in a 2-mile CC run. The 8th grade ran against 130 runners from area schools. McKenzie Florence came 44th, Christine Phillips 76th, and Lauren Steggerda 77th.
The 7th grade girls ran against 127 runners. As a team they placed 8th our of 14 teams. Taylor Courtney came in 1st, Cali Booth 9th, Kailee Kapke 57th, Chasity Hooper 74th, Kayla Wilcoxson 81st, LaTisha Trevino 82nd, Holli Dickerson 83rd, and Kelsey Miller 102nd.

Hawley JV vs Stamford

The JV Bearcats defeated Stamford last night 14-13. Stamford scored first on their opening drive making the score 7-0. Hawley came back and marched down the field and scored on a 22 yard touchdown pass from Tanner Thompson to Jeremy Ortega. Stamford answered back on a long TD pass to make the score 13-6 at the end of the first quarter. Daniel Brewer ran the ball in from 4 yards out for a Bearcat touchdown just before half, making the score 14-13.
