Hawley Middle School Girls Tennis

The Middle School Tennis team competed in Winters yesterday (March 27, 2006) in a 3 school match up: Hawley, Winters, and Novice. The girls did very well!

Hawley JV Girls Softball WIN Scrimmage against EULA

Yesterday, (Monday March 27, 2006) the Hawley JV girls softball team plowed over the Eula pirates winning 15 – 0 in a scrimmage. After four innings, the game was called. Becca Barbee did an outstanding job pitching allowing only 15 batters to appear against her. The JV Lady Cats also had a great day batting: LaShae Keith two doubles, Krystal Jones two doubles and a single, Kassie Barbee three singles, Brittany Florence one triple, Taylor Newcomb one single, Becca Barbee one double, Danielle Faulks a double and a single, and Kyla Anderson a single. The JV Lady Cats were also quick on their feet with their fielding allowing no runs to come in: Danielle Faulks and Kyla Anderson caught pop-flys – great job!! Their next district game is Friday, March 31, 2006.

Hawley Girls JV Softball WINS again!!!!

Friday, March 24, 2006 the girls JV softball team won their second district game against Anson by a margin of 20 points bringing their district record to 2-0. The final score was Hawley 22 Anson 2. The girls did an outstanding job swinging their bats!! Becca Barbee hit an awesome triple to left field scoring 3 runs and 1 RBI; and Jessica Akins hit a home run to right field bringing in two other runs with her. Hitting doubles were: Brittany Florence scoring 2 runs and 3RBI’s, Jamie Sloan, Krystal Jones scoring 1 run and 2 RBI’s, Kassie Barbee scoring 2 runs and 2 RBI’s, Danielle Faulks scoring 1 run and 1 RBI. Excellent fielding was performed by all players including Robbie Britton catching a high fly ball to left field and Taylor Newcomb catching an infield pop-up to first base. Becca Barbee did a fantastic job pitching allowing only 14 batters to appear before her. The game was called in the third inning due to the 15 run rule. The JV Lady Cats will take on their next district opponents Friday March 31, 2006 in Coahoma at 5:00p.m.

Hawley Lady Cats vs Anson Lady Tigers

The Hawley Lady Cats softball team increased their district record to 2-0 with a big win over the Anson Lady Tigers on Friday. The big inning for the Lady Cats was in the third where they put up eight runs. They also scored one in the first and three in the fifth. The bats continue to be on fire with each player in the lineup scoring for the Lady Cats. They had five extra base hits, all doubles by Burton, Akins, Phillips, Hargis, and Keith. With Burton’s eight strike outs and tight team defense, the Lady cats held Anson to only one run making the final score 12-1. The game was cut short in the fifth due to the ten run rule. The Lady Cats will try to continue their winning streak with a home game against Stamford Tuesday at 7pm.

Billy Penney and Josh Stevens participated in the state powerlifting meet on Saturday, March 24, 2006. Billy Penney placed 4th with a total lift of 1310. Josh Stevens placed 5th with a total lift of 1235. Congratulations, Billy and Josh.

HAWLEY VARSITY BOYS WIN EULA PIRATE RELAYS

The Hawley Varsity Boys track team not only dominated the 1600 meter run placing first, second and third (Brendon Bounds, 1st, 4:52.41; Luke Walker, 2nd, 5:02.68 and Justin Bristow, 3rd, 5:04.47), but they also dominated the Eula Pirate Relays with their point total of 138. Second place in the boys division was a tie between Baird and Merkel with 80 points.

Brendon Bounds brought home another gold in the 800 with his time of 2:01.54. Brendon Bounds is undefeated in the 800-meter run this year.

In the triple jump, Seth Manly placed 4th with a jump of 39-9 and Josh Harris placed 6th with a jump of 38-9. Kody Sims placed 3rd in the high jump. In the long jump, Josh Winegeart placed 5th with a jump of 19-5. Corbin Coonrod placed 3rd in the discus with a throw of 130-9.

In the 3200 meter run, Luke Walker placed 2nd, 11:04.48, Justin Bristow, 5th, 11:40.24 and Bobby Schaefer, 6th, 12:08.33.

The 400-meter relay (Billy Malone, Kody Sims, Josh Harris and Matt Penney) placed 6th with a time of 48.56. The 800-meter relay (Jeremy Gwinn, Josh Winegeart, Josh Harris and Tracy Whitehead) placed 5th with a time of 1:37.19.

In the 110 hurdles, Tracy Whitehead placed 1st with a time of 16.33 and Seth Manly placed second with a time of 17.35. Matt Penney placed 5th with a time of 19.32. Tracy and Seth switched places in the 300 hurdles with Seth Manly placing 1st (42.34) and Tracy Whitehead 2nd (42.45).

In the 200, Josh Winegeart placed 3rd (23.76) and Jeremy Gwinn placed 5th, 25.40.

The 1600-meter relay (Cody Sims, Brendon Bounds, Seth Manly and Josh Winegeart) brought home the gold with a time of 3:36.71.

In the JV division, Alex Smith placed 5th in the long jump, Kyle Sellers placed 3rd in the high jump and Kevin Harp placed 2nd in the 3200 meter run.

In the 100, Alex Smith placed 2nd and Kyle Sellers placed 3rd. In the 200, Alex Smith placed 2nd and Kyle Sellers placed 3rd.

The boys will be competing in Hamlin on Saturday, April 1, 2006.

Hawley Lady Cat vs C-City Lady Wolves

The Hawley Lady Cats got their district season off to a great start Tuesday night with a 16-1 win over the Colorado City Lady Wolves. The wolves’ only score came in the top of the first. With the bases loaded freshman pitcher PeeWee Burton came through for the lady cats with her second strikeout of the inning to halt the lady wolves’ scoring for the remainder of the game. “The girls really backed me up with their excellent defensive plays. We came together as a team. We hit all the way through the lineup this was the key to the win.” Burton commented. The bats were definitely hot for the Lady cats. They had 5 doubles (PeeWee Burton-2, Heather Cobb-1, Chelsea Phillips-2) and a triple (Stacia Guerrero). Overall the Lady cats had 13 hits scoring four runs in the first, five runs in the third and seven runs in the fourth in a game shortened by the ten run rule. The Lady Cats will face the Anson Lady Tigers Friday night.

HAWLEY VARSITY BOYS TRACK TEAM PLACE SECOND

The Hawley Varsity Boys track team placed second in the Breckenridge track meet held on Thursday, March 9, 2006. The Hawley boys scored 149 points. Graham, a 3A school, won the meet with 154 points.

Bringing home gold medals for the Bearcats were: Luke Walker (3200 meter run, 11:29, and 1600 meter run, 4:57); Brendon Bounds (800 meter run, 2:01); Tracy Whitehead (110 hurdles, 16.8); and Seth Lockwood, Brendon Bounds, Seth Manly and Josh Winegeart (1600 meter relay, 3:35).

In the long jump Josh Winegeart with a jump of 19 feet, 8-3/4 inches placed second. In the triple jump, Josh Harris placed 2nd (39 feet, 8-3/4 inches) and Seth Manly placed 4th (39 feet, 5-1/4 inches).

In the 3200 meter run, Justin Bristow placed 3rd with a time of 11:51 and Bobby Schaefer placed 4th with a time of 12:22. The 400 meter relay consisting of Billy Malone, Josh Winegeart, Josh Harris and Billy Penney placed 4th with a time of 45.21.

In the 800 meter run, Rodney Rud placed 4th with a time of 2:16 and Josh Harris placed 5th with a time of 2:17.

Seth Manly placed 2nd in the 110 hurdles with a time of 17.0. In the 400 meter dash Brendon Bounds placed 2nd (52.1) and Seth Lockwood placed 4th (55.0).

In the 300-meter hurdles, Seth Manly placed 2nd (41.9) and Tracy Whitehead placed 3rd (42.1). Josh Winegeart placed 4th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.6.

Justin Bristow placed 4th in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:14 and Bobby Schaefer placed 6th.

The boys will compete in Roscoe on Saturday, March 18, 2006.
