HAWLEY BEARCATS TRACK TEAM PICK UP WHERE THEY LEFT OFF
The Hawley Bearcat Boys Varsity track team won their fifth straight regular season track meet held in Bangs, Texas on Friday, February 23, 2007. The team racked up 200 points en route to their first victory of the season. The Cats beat Lampasas, Breckenridge, Bangs, Jim Ned, Early, and Miles for the title. The Cats will go for six at Jim Ned on Thursday, March 1st.
Bringing home gold medals were Seth Lockwood, pole vault, with a vault of 10 feet; Brendon Bounds, 800-meter run (2:02) and 400-meter dash (51.0); and Seth Manly, 300 hurdles (42.9). The 800 meter relay (Josh Harris, Rodney Rud, Jeremy Gwinn and Billy Penney) also got into the action and placed first with a time of 1:37. Not to be outdone, the 1600-meter relay (Lockwood, Rud, Harris & Bounds) also grabbed the gold with a time of 3:36.
In the triple jump, Josh Harris placed 2nd with a jump of 38’7”, and Rodney Rud placed 5th with a jump of 35’5 1/2”. Seth Manly placed 2nd in the pole vault with a vault of 9’6”.
In the long jump Brendon Bounds placed 2nd with a jump of 18’3” and Alex Smith placed 3rd with a jump of 17’3”.
In the shot put Chad Taillon placed 3rd with a throw of 41’10” and he placed 3rd in the discus with a throw of 123’9”.
In the 3200 Bobby Schaefer placed 2nd (11:29) and Kevin Harp placed 3rd (12:30). The 400 relay (Harris, Gwinn, Alex Smith and Billy Penney) placed 2nd with a time of 45.6.
In the 800 meter run, Rodney Rud placed 3rd (2:14). In the 110 hurdles Seth Manly placed 2nd (17.1); Kyle Sellers, 3rd (18.4) and Seth Lockwood 5th (18.8).
In the 400-meter dash, Seth Lockwood placed 4th (54.7). Kyle Sellers placed 6th in the 300 hurdles (47.2).
In the 200 meter dash Jeremy Gwinn placed 2nd (24.5) and Billy Penney placed 6th (25.3). In the 1600 meter run Bobby Schaefer placed 2nd with a time of 5:16 and Kevin Harp placed 6th with a time of 5:47.
