Ballinger Defeats Hawley

By Robert Adkins

The Hawley Bearcats hosted the Ballinger Bearcats Friday night at Forrest Field. Hawley was coming off of their win last week over the Winters Blizzards and was feeling pretty confident facing off against the undefeated Ballinger team.

Hawley started the game by kicking and Ballinger returned it to their own 31-yard line to start their drive. With a steady progression, Ballinger managed to put together a scoring drive that took 11 plays that ended with a 1-yard quarterback keeper up the middle for 6 points. The PAT was good. Hawley started their 1st drive on their own 35-yard line after receiving the kick from Ballinger and adding 5-yards for a flag on the play. Hawley puts it to Ballinger by scoring in only 7 plays with a 40-yard run by Seth Keith. Hawley attempted a 2-point conversion on a fake PAT but fumbled the ball. Ballinger kept Hawley from scoring for the rest of the half while managing to add 21 more points to their tally, making the score at half time Ballinger 28 – Hawley 6.

The 3rd quarter was scoreless with strong defensive stands from both teams. Hawley did manage to put together a scoring drive in the 4th quarter on a good run from Kyle Sloan. The Hawley offense had a really good game, with 373 total net yards compared to Ballinger’s 416 net yards. The individual stats are as follows:
