JV Bearcats Fall to Stanton

Well, better late than never. I was just testing to see if anybody was reading my articles and several true Bearcats fans missed it. The Hawley JV Bearcats made the long trek to Stanton on November 3rd to take on the unbeaten Buffaloes. They played well but came up on the short end 27-12.

It started really well when Josh Harris took the opening kick off back 85 yards for a touchdown. The PAT failed and the Cats lead 6-0. The Buffaloes answered and that is how the first quarter ended. Stanton 7 Hawley 6. However the Buffaloes scored on the first play of the second quarter with a short touchdown pass and padded their lead. The PAT kick failed and left it 13-6. Both defenses stepped up and allowed no scoring for the rest of the half.

The second half kickoff saw LJ Greenway forcing a fumble from the return and falling on it. This set the Cats up in business at the Stanton 30-yard line. The Cat couldn’t make a first and gave the ball back to Stanton who drove the length of the field for their third score. And at the end of the third period the score was 20-7.

Late in the fourth the Cats running game got on track and put together a long drive of their own. Highlighted by a 31-yard run by Kyle Sellers and capped off by a 10-yard run up the middle by Zane Masavage. The PAT failed and with 49 seconds left in the game it was Stanton 27 Hawley 12. Stanton ran out the clock on the game and the season.

The JV Bearcats ended the year 6-4 and always put up a good fight. Our thanks go out to these brave men, their dedicated coaching staff, the cheerleaders, and of course the Bearcat fans. If we keep working hard together there will be more football success in out future.
