Hawley Claws Past Coahoma

Hawley Claws Past Coahoma

The Hawley Bearcats traveled to Coahoma Friday night to claw their way past the Bulldogs 13 – 6 to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Bulldogs received the opening kickoff and returned it all the way down to the Bearcat 5 yard line and scored on their first drive. The Bearcats took their opening drive all the way down to the Bulldog 4-yard line before turning the ball over on downs. The Bearcat defense held the Bulldogs and forced them to punt. Hawley scored on this drive with a 4 yard run up the middle by Billy Malone. The PAT was good, making the score Hawley – 7, Coahoma – 6. The Bearcat defense did an excellent job of stopping the Bulldog drive and forcing the turnover on downs.

The Bearcat offense could not get their plan of attack executed and was forced to punt the ball away. The Bearcat defense held the Bulldogs once again giving Hawley the ball back and this time the Bearcat offense was able to capitalize on the drive and scored on a 17 yard run by Seth Keith. The PAT was no good due to a bad snap, making the score Hawley – 13, Coahoma – 6. The remainder of the game was mainly defense, keeping the Bulldogs from scoring for the rest of the game. The Hawley offense put together some good drives but was unable to get one in the endzone for the remainder of the game. The final score was Hawley – 13, Coahoma – 6.
Hawley will host the Stanton Buffaloes this Friday night at Forrest Field to try and clench a post-season playoff spot. So make plans to attend and support these young men as they make history for Hawley. Go Bearcats!
